IIIT-BIIT Summer School on Youth Leadership 2024 held

Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT) hosted a six-day residential course, IIIT-BIIT Summer School: An Intellectual Discourses Program, from May 26 to May 31, 2024.

The inaugural session of the summer school was held at the Conference Hall of BIIT. All sessions on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th days, as well as the closing and certificate distribution ceremony, were held at the KG Eco Resort & Picnic Spot, Birulia, Savar, Dhaka.

Participants enjoyed all the sessions of the Summer School 2024 with prominent scholars from both home and abroad. About 35 participants from different institutions completed this summer school program. Many sessions over the 6 days, as well as the inaugural and closing ceremonies, were moderated by Dr. Momota Hena, Academic Fellow of BIIT and faculty member of Northern University Bangladesh.

In the inaugural session of the Summer School, Mr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau, Prime Minister’s Office, was present as the chief guest, where Prof. Dr. Yusuf M. Islam, Vice Chancellor of Southeast University and Vice President (Teaching-Training) of BIIT, presided over the ceremony. Dr. M. Abdul Aziz, Director General of BIIT and Country Representative of IIIT, USA, delivered the opening speech. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Fazli Elahi, former VC of IUT (OIC), spoke as a special guest at the ceremony.

The closing ceremony of the Summer School was followed by the distribution of certificates and speeches by the guests. Dr. Md. Ali Afzal, Managing Director of Krishibid Group, spoke as the Guest of Honor, where Prof. Dr. M. Abdul Aziz, Director General of BIIT and Visiting Faculty at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT-OIC), presided over the ceremony.

Mr. Farid Uddin Ahmed, former MD of IBBL and Vice-President (Finance) of BIIT; Md. Abdul Awal Sharker, former Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank and Director General of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Training and Research Institute (AIBTRI); and Colonel (Retired) Ashraf Al Deen, former Principal of Manarat International College, were present and spoke as special guests. Dr. Syed Shahid Ahmad, Sr. Assistant Director (Admin), also spoke at the event. A vote of thanks was given by Md. Solaiman Miah, Director of BIIT.

This Summer School covers topics such as Brain: Mind Mapping Tools for Creative Learning, Philosophy from a Comparative Perspective, Knowledge, Education, and Civilization, The Meeting Point of Revelation and Science, Methodology of Interaction with and Reflection on the Quran and the Sunnah, Critical Thinking, Problem-solving, and Creativity, Civilization and the Clash of Civilizations, Islamization of Knowledge: Application to the Field of Economics & Finance, Fiqh: An Etymological Evolution with Special Reference to the Current Challenges of Ijtihad, Exploring Your Potential to Push for Excellence, Research Hypothesis: Formulation and Testing, Research: Spiral and Approaches, Priorities and Scope of Research: The Case of IIIT and BIIT, Challenges of Modern Education and Responses of the Ummah, Introduction to Secularism, Imperialism & Modernism, and STEAM Education: Principles and Practices.

Topics were presented by notable speakers, including Prof. Dr. M. Shamsher Ali, Founder VC of Bangladesh Open University and Founder President of BIIT; Dr. Omar Hasan K. Kasule Sr., Professor at King Fahad Medical City, KSA, and Secretary General of IIIT, USA; Prof. Dr. Omar Jah, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Health of The Gambia and Former Acting VC at IUT, OIC; Prof. Dr. Israr Ahmad Khan, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Social Sciences University of Ankara, Turkey; Sheikh Musa Al Hafiz, Centre for Islamic Thought & Studies and Fellow of BIIT; Dr. Abdullah Al Ahsan, Former Professor of Comparative Civilization, International Islamic University Malaysia; Prof. Dr. Md. Aslam Haneef, Professor of Economics at International Islamic University, Malaysia; Dr. Hafiz Rahman, USA; Dr. Ahmet Alibasic, Professor of Theology at the Department of Islamic Studies, University of Sarajevo, Bosnia; and Dr. Farid Ahmed, Senior Professional Staff (Applied Physics Lab), Johns Hopkins University, and Adib Abdullah Ahmad, USA.

In the Summer School, there were book discussion sessions on Muslim Civilization: The Causes of Decline and the Need for Reform by Umar Chapra, Toward Our Reformation: From Legalism to Value-Oriented Islamic Law and Jurisprudence, Crisis in the Muslim Mind by Abdul Hamid AbuSulayman, Al Tawhid: Its Implication for Thought and Life, Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence by M. Hashim Kamali, conducted by Dr. Mahmood Ahmed, Former DG of IBRTA, IBBL and Former Secretary General of BIIT; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omar Farooq, Chairman, Dept. of Economics, United International University; Colonel Ashraf Uddin, Former Director (Research), Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIIS); Dr. Mosharof Hossain Masud, Former Registrar of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology; Mohammad Azharul Islam Habib, Associate Professor and Head of the Dept. of Law, MIU and Research Fellow of BIIT.
